Bondi To Coogee Walk

Let’s be honest, whichever way round you decide to do this walk, Coogee to Bondi or Bondi to Coogee walk, there is only one or two places you should be ending it. First stop, the beach, either Bondi Beach or Coogee Beach for some sunbathing and a paddle. Secondly, a good pub!

If you have read any of my other blogs, particularly Sydney Happy Hour Hotspots, you will know I can point you in the right direction or three. One of the best things about this beautiful, mind-clearing, scenic walk is it’s fantastically free! It is a walk that needs to be on your list of top 5 things to do when in Sydney.

Bondi Coastal Walk Information

How long is the Bondi to Coogee walk?
The Coogee to Bondi walk takes around 2 hours.

How long far is the Bondi to Coogee Coastal walk?
The distance is around 6km

Bondi

So I would suggest starting at Bondi. It’s easier to get to than Coogee as Bondi junction station is up the road and then access to CBD and other areas of Sydney are easier. To get to Bondi Beach from Bondi Junction you can get the 333 Bus and tap on via Opal or your contactless bank card.

Bondi Beach

One of my Aussie challenges set by my parents before I left, was to somehow ,without drowning, get onto Bondi Rescue. Bob n Deb (mum and dad) are big fans of the lifesaving boys in blue – yes actual life guards are the blue ones and the ones with the funny tie up yellow and red caps and blindingly obvious stereotype lifeguarding gear, are actually the volunteers.

So far, I am failing on the Bondi rescue missions and I hope for your future visits to whoever is reading this – that you pay attention to the flags (initially I didn’t know what they meant) and try not to drown.

If you live in Sydney, it’s a tourist, backpacker & working holiday hotspot. It’s essentially the UK and Ireland relocated. Honestly though, who can really blame us brits and Irish, when we have grown up with Southend and Brighton as our beaches!

Bondi Beach Graffiti Wall

Melbourne has AC/DC Lane, we have a Bondi beach version. I’m bias, but when you have a wall of graffiti art, opposite a stunning beach, as opposed to a piss smelling alley, I think we know who wins.

The wall is updated in sections, some works of art have been there for months, others a few weeks and then something new replaces it.

Bondi Icebergs

Another Bondi classic! The Bondi Icebergs make for a great day out in the pool if the beach isn’t cutting it. Or, head to the restaurant for some pretty decent food and views to match.

Bondi Secret Cave

I was shown this secret spot by a Bumble Date, he didn’t last, neither did bumble. But, this place being my favourite spot in Bondi has! So I guess thank you mr bumble date.

Now, Im getting serious for a minute because this comes with a serious warning, because if you fall, you are dead, literally dead. It’s rocks immediately underneath, with brutal currents and no one can really see you. So please, please, please be careful. I do get a little vertigo with sweaty palms walking the 10 steps to get to my secret spot.

However, it’s literally 6ft from safe land and you just have to have steady footing and stay close to the wall. Please. As you walk up to the furthest head of Bondi, as you start the Bondi to Coogee walk, you will come to a sand wall lookout, a bit of a courtyard before you start to climb up the stairs to the cliff hang lookout points.

Jump the wall on the courtyard and follow the cliff wall round to the right. There you will find my little secret spot which is great for just watching the sea or having some secret time to think.

Tamarama

I actually really like this beach! Mainly because I can’t help but say Tamarama in my best Faussie (Fake- Aussie) accent. It’s also got the nickname Glamarama, mainly because loads of fit people go here as it’s quieter and smaller (80m) than Bondi and I can vouch, there were many hotties on the beach that day.

I found out on the walk this little fun fact: That Tamarama used to be home to the Bondi aquarium 150 years or so ago (before it burnt down in the 1800s) and even had a rollercoaster! You can still see the supports inside the bay. Tamarama beach on the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, is one of the most dangerous beaches in NSW, with more rescues than any other beach! So maybe avoid swimming here gang and just go for a paddle.

Bronte

Never short of beautiful scenic umbrellas and picnic blankets, Bronte is one of the picturesque beaches. Especially, if like me, you hate sand, there are plenty of grass spots, bbq huts and more to spend a day at the beach but not on the beach.

Clovelly beach

Clovelly

Grab your snorkels and dive into this open sea cove. I went swimming here once on a Tuesday in April and it was bloody freezing! But, a positive was that I got to see the famous clovelly blue fish!

Waverley Cemetery and Boardwalk

Along the sides of the cliffs the new (ish) boardwalk allows you to walk alongside Waverley Cemetery. Probably one of the best final resting places for those buried on the Sydney Cliffs. Walk, Run or stop and look out to the sea for a beautiful view on this section of the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk.

Gordons Bay

Gordons Bay

A cute small cove beach with boating racks on either side. Sunbathe on the rocks or just admire the sight as you walk through this small section on the way to Coogee.

Coogee

You made it! You have completed the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk. As you walk over the green cliff heads you come into view of the Coogee Bay. Head on down to the beach, pop into the Coogee Pavillion or head further to Coogee Bay hotel for an epic finish up and food.

Whichever way round you do the walk, from Coogee to Bondi or Bondi to Coogee, you will be amazed at the most beautiful sights on one of Sydney’s must do coastal walks
