Exciting & Unique Bars in Northbridge Perth

Exciting & Unique Bars in Northbridge Perth

I’ve lived in Northbridge, Perth for four months now and it’s about time I wrote about my time spent here, typically just as I am about to leave. I spent the majority of my evenings eating and drinking across Exciting & Unique Bars in Northbridge Perth.

Of course, if you have read any of my other blogs, especially those focused in Sydney, you would notice I know a lot about bars & where to go for a good drink or four!

So, it probably comes to you with no shock that my first blog about Perth is based around my favourite bars in Northbridge!

Depending on who you ask, Northbridge has a somewhat conflicting reputation.

Yes, sadly it might be the largest area for homeless people & Ice addiction sufferers. However, putting the dark side of Perth aside, Northbridge is always filled with life and atmosphere!

Home to the most nightclubs per square meter, horrendously fantastic dive bars like Mustangs & Brass monkey. Northbridge is the nightlife epicentre of Perth, mixed with China Town & the self-elected home of many backpackers like myself, it makes for an interesting suburb to call home.

Up first we have my Wednesday Hump Day treat

The Standard Northbridge Perth

The Standard – Hawkers Night

Bringing even more excitement to hump day, The Standard is a must-visit, book in advance cocktail bar and restaurant. It also fits my mantra of boujee travel – looks and feels expensive as hell but doesn’t break the bank.

Wednesday night at The Standard is Hawkers Night. Inspired by Asian fusion dishes, for $20 per person you can get an amazing meal and drink of choice (wine, beer, spirit & mixer).

The mix between indoor & outdoor bar & dining areas all lit with fairy lights, woven around various scaffolding levels creates a beautiful industrial yet romantic setting.

Perfect for Date night in Perth. Head to The Standard on a Wednesday & then head around the back alleys to try and find Sneaky Tony’s (keep reading for my favourite speakeasy prohibition bar in Northbridge, Perth).

Best Bars in Northbridge

Rooftop Bars in Perth

Lucky Chan’s Laundry & Noodle Bar

A secret entryway themed bar always grabs my attention!

Head down William St in Northbridge and stumble across the Laundromat themed noodle bar. Head through the washing machine door and climb the ironing board cladded stairs to the rooftop bar.

Famous for their changing themed rooftop bar, Lucky Chan’s is currently dishing out Breaking Bad inspired cocktails in their Walter White themed menu for a limited time!

When science meets alcohol & smoke arises from your drink I will happily pay the $18+ for a cocktail of immense RSA approved strength.

If you are in the mood for food as well as drinks, I can wholeheartedly recommend their bao buns. One order was not enough we ordered four servings they were that good on my last visit.

Also, I have to recommend a drink…

Lucky Chan Rooftop Bar

I can’t remember Walter Whites scientific name but make sure to try the espresso martini influenced drink! It packs a punch but it is so good. The whipped coconut cream topping takes it to another level.

If it wasn’t $18 a cocktail and I wasn’t saving for a Western Australia road trip. I promise you I would have bought more!

Where To Drink In Perth

Neon Palms Bar in Northbridge

Neon Palms

Everything about this bar reminded me of the suburb of Gold Coast – Burleigh Heads with its 80’s Miami nostalgia theme. If Neon palms ever thought of expanding that is where they need to head ASAP.

Lavish Habits

I made an amazing discovery whilst planning out the most exciting and Unique Bars in Northbridge blog!

I wrote down the list of my favourite places, venues that had amazing atmospheres or really fun themes. Bars that transported you somewhere else and left you wanting to tell everyone about your experience there.

I discovered after a little bit of research, out of the nine venues I love, six of the bars were all owned by the same company – Lavish Habits founded by chef & restaurateur Clint Nolan!

Talk about knowing your customers. I love venues that fully encompass what they are about & Lavish Habits owned bars certainly tick the box.

Every Lavish Habits venue takes you somewhere else. each venue is completely different and adds to the variety of bars across the Northbridge area.

From the décor to the menu to the atmosphere. Each venue has something special that resonates with me and everyone else. That’s probably the reason why they are so successful and dominate the food and drink scene in Northbridge, Perth.

Maybe I should change the blog title to My Love for Lavish Habits Venues in Northbridge…

Sneaky Tony’s

A speakeasy, hidden in the back end of Northbridge China Town alleyways, complete with metal sliding peephole & password entry… I’m sold!

The excitement starts before you even get into Sneaky Tony’s, it’s a venue you have to be taken to and shown – you won’t find this on your own & that’s the best bit!

You would walk past Sneaky Tony’s (and I did many, many times) without even realizing it was there.

You can find the password for the week or night on the weekend on their Sneaky Tony Facebook page. Pull back the huge metal industrial wall and walk into the corridor before the main entryway.

Then it’s time to step into Sneaky Tony’s Rum Bar. Immediately, you are taken into a place of dim lighting, dark wooden furnishings, a smoky mysterious atmosphere & a bar that screams Prohibition.

Complete with a floor to ceiling shelved wall, filled with golden liquors & every rum under the sun you could hope to drink from around the world.

Grab a booth or pull up a stool by the bar and have fun deciding which cocktail to start with!

Priced around $15+ per cocktail, they are worth the money & strong.

The Pina Colada served by the talented cocktail shaking and making bar staff, was hands down one of the best I’ve had in a long time!

Johnny Fox’s

Ready to be transported to Ireland?

Hands down Johnny Fox’s is the best Irish pub in Perth. Complete with Irish home comfort food, live music and world-famous Hospitality in Perth.

Like an emerald painted beacon on James St, Johnny Fox’s looks and feels like it’s been plucked out of Dublin’s very own Temple Bar area!

Order an Irish Whiskey or Guinness, poured by the Irish staff then grab a table and sit in the high backed wooden benches. Or, if it’s packed like usual, stand around a whiskey barrel on the veranda, all whilst tapping your foot to the live music pumping out of the venue.

Not forgetting for the best roast dinner in Perth. Make sure to book in for their touch of Ireland Johnny Fox’s home-cooked roast dinners on a Sunday.

Beef or Lamb smothered in gravy and loaded with every potato. Crispy roast tatties, mash & sweet potato to carb cure the hangover from the night before.

For my Irish friends, Johnny Fox’s serve Tayto crisps behind the bar. If you know, now you really are feeling at home whilst in Perth Australia!

La Cholita Northbridge Perth

La Cholita – Tacos & Tequila

If tacos & tequila doesn’t get your attention, Margarita’s might instead?

No, seriously, I love Mexican inspired restaurants & bars. I didn’t become an El Camino Sydney Amigo for no reason. I am the psycho that can shot tequila without any help from salt or lemon & smile afterwards.

La Cholita with their choice of 100 types of tequila only encourages my behaviour further. It is a must-visit venue when looking for fun and exciting bars in Northbridge.

Plus, the food is to die for on top of all of the above. Sold yet?

PS. Make sure to book, La Cholita are pretty much fully booked each night!

Alabama Song

Honey grab your cowboy boots & get ready to sling a whiskey shot or two. Alabama Song is the must-visit bar in Northbridge when Whiskey is on your mind.

Whiskey drinks perfectly paired with their Alabama Kitchen inspired by southern comfort food. The menu includes cheeseburgers, fried chicken & 50c chicken wings on a Wednesday & Sunday!

Make your Wild Wild West style entrance through the swinging bat doors. Get ready for bourbon and country honkey-tonk dancing with their live music bands every weekend on a Friday & Saturday night.

One last thing – quite important too, if you have a peanut allergy this is not the venue for you!

Henry Summer

A venue that masters the epitome of Australian Summer outdoor drinking! Surrounded by Urban inspired modern décor with enough plants to put a garden centre to shame. Its free-flowing indoor & outdoor spaces have you covered for every month of the year when looking for bars in Northbridge Perth.

The perfect place for you and a large group of friends to enjoy a Sunday Session. The atmosphere is only heightened by the various DJ’S playing the perfect combination of music. Plenty of summer vibe beats in the day and switching up to dance floor fillers on the weekend.

Grab a fruity white sangria Jug ($50) or pint ($11). Don’t forget your sunnies and suncream, you will happily spend a full afternoon basking in the sun at Henry Summer.

Top Tip – on a Friday & Saturday night the queue will be down the street with people queuing to get in.

If you can’t be bothered to wait and feel the need to have a boogie and a drink quicker, you can pay $10 to jump the queue. Otherwise, it’s free entry if you have the patience.

Although not a nightclub, Henry Summer goes strong into the night and closes at 2 pm.
