San Luis Obispo – An Incredibly Unique Air Bnb

This is an incredibly Unique Air BnB experience in San Luis Obispo that really added to our West Coast Road Trip.

Myself and my best friend James decided to stop just outside San Luis Obispo along Highway one at a place called Arroyo Grande.

We stopped to break up the drive from Santa Barbara to the Big Sur and onwards to San Francisco. We are so glad we did. Only because, we found some amazing sightseeing spots that being based in San Luis Obispo allowed us to discover.

Having planned this stopover spot we decided to look on Air BnB in advance for somewhere to stay. We found The Water Tower and knew immediately that this would make our West Coast road-trip even more memorable.

The Water Tower

We discovered The Water Tower in the Arroyo Grande area of San Luis Obispo County. It was a perfect location based only five minutes from Pismo Beach and tourist spots such as The Madonna Inn (15 minutes by car) & Hearst Castle (1 hour North).

Cost

Two nights at a total cost of £214.00

Which split between two worked out really cheap at around £112 per person. This was a once in a lifetime road trip for us so the price wasn’t really an issue as we had saved a lot for a long time.
Our choice to stay here was experienced-based and for something to look back on and remember. Seeing as we did this road trip in 2016 – its safe to say this was a highlight of accommodation as I’m still remembering it clearly in 2019.

Labour of Love

Laura (Superhost Status) and Ben, our Airbnb Hosts incredible home has been a labour of love and it really shows. Every element beyond their home that is open to guests has an amazing level of detail.

Every step is a melted meld of spanners, bolts and screws which perfectly compliments their hand made signs for the bathrooms, communal area’s, outdoor kitchen with craft beer pump and stone pizza oven.

The fire pit with comfortable chairs and blankets in which one of the many cats will come and sit on your lap for the evening made this part of our road-trip one of our favourites.

It’s back to basics, but with the home comfort feel. It took us back to many childhood camping holidays, but with the added American feel of smores. This Stay was further enhanced by Bens American accent whilst telling us stories of how this place came to be.

Their adorable water tower is located on their 4-acre ranchette with an ocean view. This 1930’s tower was rescued by Ben and Laura from demolition and converted into a small guest room.

There is a small sitting area and an alcove (low ceiling) with a full-size bed. It’s cozy and charming. Think Tiny Home. The Water Tower is just the incredibly unique Air BnB stay we wanted to help give us the best experience.

Especially in comparison to The Cosmopolitan Hotel stay we had booked for when we hit Las Vegas!

The Worldly Bathroom

The option for indoor or outdoor showering experiences was also fully available. Their cute & quirky bathhouse decorated in local maps was shared with other guests and towels are provided.
The showers were beautifully hot for inside or refreshingly cold for when we felt brave enough to use the outside shower (once was enough).

They provided an electric kettle and coffee press, along with coffee, tea and instant oatmeal in a self-serve cabinet on the side of the bathhouse. Great for morning coffee’s around the fire pit or hot chocolates at night time with the ocean breeze full in effect.

Not to forget the adult size swing-set we made the most of! It fully entertained us for a good hour, climbing the frame to see the amazing coastal view and other houses in the area; including Ben’s mum’s house and his brothers.

Ben and Laura’s home is also an animal lovers dream! Two weeks into our road trip and we needed a fix of good Doggo’s. Rico the stunning blue-eyed shepherd filled that void. Not to forget about the cats; whether you wanted them to sit on you or not. Along-with the beautiful horses and chickens, you could find across their land.

Another San Luis Obispo accommodation option here at Laura’s and Ben’s was a teepee Yurt style tent when we stayed. Although from looking at their other listings it’s no longer available – they do have a new addition!

As you may probably gather by now, this is an incredibly unique Air BnB accommodation and one that only enhances any West Coast Road Trip.
