Discovering Cebu Waterfalls

Discovering Cebu Waterfalls In The Philippines

I have never seen water in so many varieties, waterfalls, sea, lagoons, you name it, as BLUE as the water in the Philippines. Hands down it wins on every category. Below, are some of the incredible Cebu Waterfalls you can find on the Filipino Island.

Head down to the south of the island, where you can find some of natures most jaw-dropping waterfalls.

Inambakan Falls

May as well start off with the best waterfall I have ever seen on this planet. So much so, all the gang had to tell me to shut up, because they could see how amazing it was too. You can see how incredible it is for yourself below in our Cebu Waterfall finest poses; curtesy of Dave, our Filipino Instagram King tour guide.

Getting to Inambakan Waterfall

This is part of the adventure itself…

DO NOT go through the mountain pass, it’s an uphill sharp turn formula 1 style course that resulted in all of us coming off our bikes. Not fun.

Go around the bottom of the island and keep going until you get to the town of Ginatilan.

From there follow the mountain pass down some hills (better than the days before crash attempt) and you will come across a house where you can pick up a tour guide.

Dave, our tour guide showed us around the waterfall levels and gave us the best day possible, well worth the 100 Peso tip.

Bottom Tier Waterfall

This is the first waterfall you will see out of the tiered falls. It is by far the most impressive, but it is the last you will come across, as you start at the top level and head down. The water is really this blue, swim out to the cave, where you can climb (with some help) to take a battering/massage by the waterfall. You can swing and dive into this section of the waterfall from various rocks and heights.

We were extremely lucky to have the entirety of Inambakan falls to ourselves.

This was the true exploration adventure we were all looking for! Not the places where you’ve managed to take an Instagram picture at the right moment to cut out other tourists. When in reality, about 100 other people are waiting to take the same picture.

This was our boxing day discovery that I will forever remember. It has also ruined all other waterfalls since they are never as good. The only exception – Laos, Kuang Si Falls, still the water here was a lot bluer!

Presenting your 2019 Love Island Cast…

Dave made us do it, and I am very grateful he did because its a class picture and the only picture of the whole Philippines family travel gang.

These formations of rocks look like they are in line with the water, they are actually about a foot or two higher. There is an underwater cave you can swim into and have a little pocket for your head.

Dave freaked us all out when he disappeared after diving in, to then only reappear out of the cave a minute later. If you can beat the power of the current you can swim up onto the rocks and create fun blasts of water at others swimming towards you.

Binalayan Hidden Falls

Park up in the clearing (this one is signposted), start to follow the trail through the palm trees. As you walk you will start to see the stream of water, follow it up through the stepping stones and you will come into a Natural pool/playground.

Rope swings and tires swings have been attached to various rocks and palm trees for you to play on. Follow the water hollowed rocks pathway, up the stairs, you will then be able to step across the top of a smaller waterfall ledge.

This is when this natural moon pool came into view. If Disney was to create a waterfall themed jungle heaven, we found their inspiration.

Clouded by tree’s 20 ft above, this natural made circular plunge pool, surrounded by a cavern of rocks stunned us.

Two local Filipino guys showed the boys the various increasing jump points, from 1m to 10m’s. With the boys climbing the rocks, and my anxiety peaked, they dove into the pool below.

This pool could only be about 6 1/2ft deep. Bean, one of the boys is 6ft 3 and standing at the bottom you could see his extended hands. The trick is to dive and splat/spread out underneath the water, to then stop yourself from whacking the bottom of the pool.

Count me out. Luckily, nobody died.

Flip Flop Faux Pas

If you have water shoes, I would invest in a pair for the Philippines. My flip flops broke here, barefoot for the rest of the day, I then had to sport 30PHP Moana flip flops 3 sizes too small, till we could find a Havaianas shop in Cebu city.

Tumalog Falls

Often paired with the tours that offer the Philippines Whale Shark swimming.

Tours=Tourists, this spot was full of them (yes, technically we are tourists, but there’s a difference between tourists and travellers, or so we told ourselves).

Don’t let the photo fool you, I’m very good with the edit tool and I feel like I need to bring some reality to travelling. We took the “we came, we saw, we moved on” approach here.

It’s beautiful, but there are plenty of other waterfalls a scooter ride away from where you can find waterfalls all to yourselves.

It’s the closest waterfall to Oslob and well signposted. See it if you want ease over exploration, but, the further you go the more rewards you will get when it comes to waterfalls in the south of Cebu.

The Philippines is home to some of the world’s most incredible waterfalls. The island of Cebu has the most waterfalls in close proximity and all are worth exploring. These are just a few of my stand out favourites of Cebu Waterfalls.
